Car culture is something that is important to the world, and myself as well. There are a few people who stand out however. When Paul Walker was tragically killed in 2013 I decided to do three digital renderings of individuals who had an impact on me.
- James Dean was only 24 years old when he crashed his Porsche Spyder and died on a lonely stretch of highway outside Bakersfield, California. The tragedy occurred on September 30, 1955, scarcely a week before the opening of Rebel Without a Cause, the celebrated movie about juvenile delinquents, which would immortalize him as the archetype of the brooding adolescent. He is pictured here in his Porsche Spyder nick named “Little Bastard”
- Paul Walker was most noted for his role in the modern cult classic series of The Fast and The Furious. On November 30, 2013, in Valencia, CA he and his friend and business partner Roger Rodas were killed in a single car collision. The Porsche GT burst into flames and ended both lives prematurely. One of Walker’s favorite cars was his Nissan Skyline GTR. He is pictured here against a classic GTR with a tuna sandwhich on the roof. One of his most memorable lines was “I like the tuna here.”
- July 17, 2015 saw the first death of a F1 due to injuries since Ayrton Senna. Jules Bianchi was a young and talented driver often piloting his Marussia to places it was not expected. The 2014 Japanese Gran Prix was pelted by a Monsoon that should have cancelled it. Jules lost control of his car and struck a recovery vehicle clearing a wreck.
- Ayrton Senna is widely considered to be the greatest Formula 1 Driver of all time.
- Tragically he was killed in an accident at the Imola circuit in 1994.
- His death spawned many safety regulation changes and he is to this day the last fatality in a sport that experienced multiple deaths per year as a norm.
- He had a large hand in developing the iconic Honda NSX. To match his notable helmet color he is pictured here against a yellow NSX.
- Lewis Hamilton is the first Black Formula 1 driver in the history of the sport. Not only that he is regarded as one of the best to ever drive. He shares many characteristics with his idol Ayrton Senna.
- Overcoming many obstacles he has climbed into the history books breaking many records and his career is far from over. Already a living legend he continues to dominate the sport.
